Growth, Certification, and Advocacy

PDa Magazine is pleased to present regular updates from the US National Demolition Association. This column comes from NDA Executive Director Jeff Lambert.

As we begin a new year, I’m excited to share some updates on the NDA’s progress and priorities. The last few months of 2023 were quite busy, filled with milestones achieved and exciting initiatives launched.

Member
Growth.
Our commitment to expanding our reach and amplifying the voice of the demolition industry is paying off. We’ve identified nearly 2,300 potential member companies, representing 14,000 contacts across demolition, abatement, and scrap recycling sectors. Since launching our targeted campaign in this year, we’ve welcomed 35 new members. We anticipate a surge in new members and renewals in January and February, as many companies wait until their new fiscal year to make such decisions. We’re confident in achieving our goal of doubling our member in the next three years. Our ranks grow stronger every day!

Certification. The NDA’s commitment to professional development is taking shape. The Certification Board established the cut score for the Certified Demolition Supervisor (CDS) beta exam, and we were thrilled to announce the first class of CDS designees in December. Twenty-seven individuals will be recognized for their accomplishment at Demolition San Antonio.  This landmark achievement signifies a new era of competency recognition in our field.

To be sure you don’t miss out on the next window to register for the CDS exam, check our website (www.demolitionassociation.com). We’re also gearing up for the development of the entry-level Certified Demolition Technician (CDT) certification. This initiative aligns perfectly with our strategic goals of workforce development and safety.

Safety. The Starting Out Right video series is finally here! These 17 short, engaging videos will be invaluable tools for onboarding new hires and reinforcing key safety concepts. A huge thank-you to John Satterwhite and the dedicated Safety Committee members for their tireless efforts on this two-year project.

Advocacy. We’re actively representing your interests on Capitol Hill. In December, the NDA submitted comments to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce regarding proposed changes to the Fair Labor Stanards Act (FLSA) regulations. We firmly believe in overtime flexibility that benefits both employers and employees.

Happy Birthday NDA! This year marks our 50th anniversary. And what better way to celebrate than joining your industry colleagues at Demolition San Antonio in March. It will be a convention to remember. I’m brimming with optimism for NDA’s future this year, and beyond. We’re growing, upskilling our workforce, advocating for your best interests, and building a safer, more prosperous demolition industry.

Thank you for your continued membership and support. If you are not a member, join our ranks. Together, we’ll make 2024 a year of even greater achievements.
